"Red and Gold" is the eighth track from MF DOOM’s debut studio album "OPERATION: DOOMSDAY".
In this song, DOOM remembers the good ole' days of smoking and people getting jumped. “Red and Gold” refers to the changing of the seasons, and we listen to Doom both lament and reflect on past murders, and those to come this season.
According to filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough (director of many of DOOM’s old videos), this song is a true story about a grim tale in the villain’s life:
"There was a dangerous side to DOOM that lingered right under the surface, which came out when he told me stories about the meaning behind songs like ‘Red & Gold’ (“Wig twisting season/Where some could get their wig twisted back within reason”) – a fact-based song about cold murder in the streets."
Sample is from “Shoot Em' Up Movies” by The Deeles.
