I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Shout At The Devil", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

The Dirt movie really introduced the band to a new generation. I'm a die hard 80s metalhead (settle down purists, long hair and hard guitars qualifies as metal in my book, hot take, I know) & even I thought the genre would never take off again outside of niche audiences. Not saying Motley are now BTS or Taylor, but hey, their stats aren't too bad for a "glam" band that had their prime about 35 years ago. It feels like the Crue was just shy of 30 million plays for a really long time. Then the Dirt dropped and we're at nearly 46 million! Def Leppard had a HUGE album in Hysteria in the 80s, I haven't got the figures in front of me but I'm almost certain that album did way better business than any single release of Motley (Dr Feelgood being their best seller for a long time, maybe still is?). Def Leppard have also been touring non stop & yet their numbers on LastFM are way lower than the Crue's. I dunno, I'm a stat keeping junkie so this shit is pretty interesting to me, at least.

Killing Joke should sue Motley Crue for their "Dr. Feelgood" song that's a complete ripoff of Killing Jokes' "Love Like Blood" song.

lol it has been over 95 years since Killing Joke released "Love Like Blood"? You apparently don't understand copyright and how long it lasts.

Such "rip-off" exclamations are often completely unfounded, and this one is no exception. Similarity in riff is confused with stealing, again. It's impossible to prove that this is a borrowing and not an independent find, and even if a borrowing, why not? Have you ever noticed that bluesmen use the same chord progressions recycled over and over?

I have noticed that artists have straight up stole blue artist music. They usually don't have money to sue someone that stole their music. Bluesmen typically don't use the same chords and progression if you listen to it. It's unfortunate you can not detect differences in blues songs. Copyright protects musical compositions and the different components of the tune itself. Nikki Sixx/Mötley Crüe copied the bass line verbatim like Nirvana did with "Come as you are" being a copy of Killing Joke's "Eighties." For those two songs, Dave Grohl agreed to play on one of Killing Joke's album's to get persuade Killing Joke to not sue Cobain's estate and Nirvana. It was obvious they'd lose. Copying the same bass lines verbatim is infringement. In fact, much less than that can lead to a successful lawsuit, like with what happened with Robin Thick. It's unfortunate you and itscreamfan have zero understanding of copyright, but at least you didn't claim it's too late to sue lol.

Sick and tired of Nikki's pretentious bs about integrity, slamming bands (Kiss) for lipsyncing, and their bombastic "final tour" with bs contracts and that whole shebang, and now this... Safe to say, I'm #TeamMick

I'd like to see the listening chart when The Dirt movie came out, probably went so much higher up

Tommy Lee Jones should take away the Lee name, from Pamerla. Shayna Lee is sexier than Pamela.

Sure to some degree everyone loves listening to the classics, but the music market seems to become ever more lopsided towards older stuff

I think it's rather sad they get so many listening hours, while so many young and incredibly talented metal acts actually innovating and pushing the boundaries of the genre further, do not even get a percentage of the listening time

For any stat nerds like me out there, here's a few figures from 2021 for the Crüe on Spotify: 24.6 million listeners across 178 countries played Mötley tunes 337.3 million times equalling 20.4 million hours listened. I've got no figures from other groups on hand to compare this to, but that's not a bad amount of head bangin' and lighter wavin' still going on in 2021. Rock on🤘

Балагуры и смутьяны, при этом записывали альбомы, которые без сомнения можно было бы назвать классикой хэви-метала, если бы пошлота и ярлыки)
