A lesser known fact is that Luther got his start recording music during David Bowie's "Young Americans" session and he actually came up with background refrain "young American, young American, she wants the young American!" then he moved onto doing background vocals/arrangements for Roberta Flack (check out the criminally underrated Roberta Flack & Peabo Bryson Live album) and singing on definitive disco tracks like "Le Freak" by CHIC and "The Glow of Love" by Change, among others. In other words, everything Luther touched turned to gold and he had already made a huge impact before he even debuted his own solo music. His vocal improvisations and arrangement ideas were so unique and innovative, truly nobody was doing quite like him at such a high level of expertise. He is missed, I wish he was still around so people could hear what real singing sounds like. To see him live would have been amazing, he just does everything so tastefully with such feel good positive energy, a rarity.

Best version of "If This World Were Mine". Luther's covers were always on point or a notch above in some way which is truly saying something because he covered many iconic songs and made them his own. Smooth, velvety, effortless, powerful. Refreshly polished and ingenious arrangements. Gotta love Luther.

Actually really surprised how much the rest of his songs pail in comparison in terms of plays to "Never Too Much". "Bad Boy (Having a Party)" is a funner cookout song in book. Folks don't know about "Wait for Love" on here?

The verses and instrumentation on that song are gorgeous but I've always felt the chorus was lacking, especially on the album where it's the first even slight misstep in my eyes.

Luther was a unique person and talent in this world. There will never be another person like him. I am glad I was introduced to his music shortly before I became a teenager. [2]

"And it'll be again exactly like it was, cause I believe in the power of love" there'll never be another Luther

The other day at school (high school), this girl told me that Chris Brown was the king of love songs. I looked at her like she was stupid and said, "LUTHER."

We lost Luther way too early. He did leave us some of the greatest music ever recorded.
