Biography

Loop12 is an egalitarian collective of musicians and artists dedicated to aural anarcho-structuralism, which is an abbreviated way of stating that the group embraces free-form sound experimentation constrained only by the dictates of a kitchen timer. Creativity requires the freedom of possibility. There are no rules, only a shared aesthetic interest in weaving often disparate, sometimes violent, sometimes satiric sonic constructions into lush post-minimalist soundscapes.

All compositions are recorded live, with all members present and in physical proximity. So far, source for content ranges from digitally constructed wave forms to film and radio samples to found objects to rickety analogue tape equipment. Loops are provided by various software applications on laptop computers and multiple vintage Digitech 8-Second delays. The final composition results from remix treatments and digital mastering, according to the current preferences of the group. However, finality is relative since each composition becomes the possibility of further constructions.

Our influences are too numerous to list, especially given the diverse interests of the members, but we should give a nod to the genius of La Monte Young’s “The Second Dream of the High-Tension Line Stepdown Transformer,” Steve Reich’s “It’s Gonna Rain,” and Pink Floyd’s “Syncopated Pandemonium.” And lest we forget, Nurse With Wound, without whom not.

We are the sum of our clicks, drones, and loops. Someone has thrown dark wet felt over the thicket and inside furry woodland creatures frolic.
