“Competition” is an upbeat, old school sounding track about the misogynistic take of men thinking they are better than women, and wanting to be first at everything.
Thirlwall hinted in a Listening Party that the song can be perceived as a sexual innuendo, saying:
It’s such a quirky concept. It’s basically about being in competition with your boyfriend, or well, it could have a hidden meaning, who knows.
