“DONT WANT IT” is the thirteenth song on Atlanta rapper Lil Nas X’s debut studio album. It features producer credits from Nick Mira and Lil Nas X himself, as this is the first song he’s helped co-produce on.
The song interpolates the folk nursery rhyme “Hush, Little Baby” in its chorus. Lil Nas X isn’t the first rapper to do so—the song was also sampled in Eminem’s “Mockingbird.”
Lil Nas X first previewed the song on Twitter on April 3, 2019, and was confirmed on September 13, 2020, through Instagram stories. The song’s title briefly appeared on screen in Lil Nas X’s futuristic Holiday music video (at 0:49) released on November 13, 2020. On July 27th, 2021, 3 versions of the song leaked. Demo 3, 10 and 11 were leaked.
Demo 3 was the OG version of DONT WANT IT, the one he teased in 2019 with the old verse and different instruments.
Demo 10 is basically the released version of this song except theres no interlude, drums on the 2nd verse and added adlibs with a different outro (no choir)
Demo 11 was Demo 10 except they changed the entire instrumental changing drums and removed a couple instruments replacing them with new ones.
This song along with the rest of the album was officially released September 17th, 2021.
