“You Don’t Own Me” is the second single from the American pop singer Lesley Gore’s second album Lesley Gore Sings of Mixed-Up Hearts. It was written by John Madara and David White. The song hit number 2 on US charts, number 5 on Canadian charts, number 4 on Australian charts, number 9 on Swedish charts and number 2 on New Zealand charts. The early feminist anthem was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in November of 2016.
Lesley Gore recorded a French version of the song titled “Je Ne Sais Plus”.
In 2015, the song was covered by Saygrace and G-Eazy. Their cover was an international hit, charting in 17 different countries and hitting number 1 in Australia.
