In my humble teenage opinion, this is the coolest album ever. Everyone says Cohen is depressing but I find him to be awesome

Uh, it seems like he got banned or something, I can still see his comments but I can’t visit his page, which is weird bc in the past when users I know have gotten banned and the admins just removed the comments with even the annoying “this shout is unavailable” (I came here from him calling late registration one of the worst albums he’s ever heard)

I forgot about old OcellatedGod... we used to pick with each other quite a bit. I think he deleted his account after the botched roll-out of the (also botched) site redesign. I don't know much about Kanye but if that's commonly held to be one of his better records, that sounds like OG, LOL-- always a contrarian. My lasting memory of him is his saying Tom Waits started going downhill with Swordfishtrombones. (And of course he considers/considered Heartattack and Vine Waits' masterpiece)

Heartattack and vine is actually the only Tom Waits song I really know lol, one of my friends on here posted some lyrics from it “ Don't you know there ain't no devil? There's just God when he's drunk” I was always told that I’d like Tom Waits but I never got into him, I listened to swordfishtrombes a while back and was weirded out by it, maybe I should revisit it through, it’s often the case that I know about a certain music artist for months or even years before I fall head over heels in love with them. Which of his other albums would you recommend?

That's a great lyric-- he has a real gift for one liners like that (in addition to his many other talents!). If you didn't care for Swordfishtrombones you might try Bone Machine or his most recent LP Bad as Me (IMO one of his very best; both have sort of a "junkyard Blues as performed by the mutant son of Beefheart and Howlin' Wolf" vibe... Bone Machine is super dark and focused largely on death while BAM is more varied and occasionally playful in its moods; both have some outstanding songwriting and great guitar from Marc Ribot), or if you want something more mellow try Alice which has kind of a "somber nightmare 1920s German Cabaret" vibe and a loose concept about Lewis Carroll and the girl who inspired his Alice stories. Prior to Swordfishtrombones he had more of a Beatnik Jazz/Blues singer vibe which I like a lot... some people like one era or the other but not both. My favorite of that early style is The Heart of Saturday Night.

The production and arrangements are dated and dreadfully cheesy, and the lyrics are some of his worst ever. His weakest album along with Ladies' Man.

I'm not keen on the two covers, but the rest is incredible. Wonderful vivid production too.
