I'm just saying all of this, because I went to college for Music Engineering/Production, and my asshole teacher, used this song as an example on how NOT to use Compression and Gated Compression properly. I think I disagree with my teacher till this day. But if I ever were to turn in a final project (a final mix of a song) with the vocal effects being treated like they are in this song, my teacher probably would have failed me on the spot. Goes to show, how square the big shots, big producers, the common techniques in music production, how square and ridiculous are still in this day and age. Props to the Kings of Leon producer, which went this direction with the vocal treatment.

Totally agree with GreenDayJunkie. This song's vocal's compression and its thick heavily run through a Gate insert afterwards, makes the vocals sound like it's being cut off right when the reverb on the voice is barely started. To some this might sound amateur (in terms of production) but for me it just sounds so cool... and they obviously did this on purpose. I don't think the producer didn't know how to use the Compressor and Gate, and I definitely don't think they just left it like this, because they didn't know how to fix it. The voice and vocal production's carefully planned, and sounds very different, and to me, really cool. Still.

What an extraordinary band Kings Of Leon is. Not so long ago I almost hated this song but now I like it a lot!

I've always wondered if and why they intentionally produced the voice so you'd hear the cut-off part....

you really think the reverb cutting straight away wasn't intentional? this album wasn't produced by amateurs. It was recorded in Pro Tools. Obviously they liked the effect and didn't let the reverb decay because the decaying end of the effected words would have muddied up the sound of the following words. The loudness war mastering of this album doesn't help this song because it makes the quiet sounds as loud as the loud sounds over exaggerating the effect further. Geez if you're gonna act like you know how to produce at least be able to spot an obvious production trick/technique.
