First “post-rock”/“prog fusion” album anyone? It’s simply amazing! I wish I had realized it before I got into 72-74 / 69-70 / 81-84 stuff...

"Earth, stream and tree encircled by sea. Waves sweep the sand from my island..." Rest in peace Boz and Ian.

You are right to mention Talk Talk (I'm sure Mark Hollis liked KC, especially their period 68-71), but their Spirit of Eden was released in 1988, 17 years after KC's Islands, not 30. Both fantastic records though!

@Dogger_Dog Well, "overlooked" would imply that it simply isn't/hasn't been mentioned often, which in some respects is true, particularly in recent years when many seem to not acknowledge its existence and simply move from In the Court of the Crimson King and possibly in the Wake of Poseidon on to Larks' Tongues, but the reviews for Islands have always tended to be unkind as well. So it might be more accurate to say that it's -- gasp -- both underrated AND overlooked!

My favorite King Crimson record. In my opinion, the greatest jazz/rock/symphonic fusion album of all-time. There's nothing that sounds quite like it, except maybe it's predecessor, Lizard. But Lizard doesn't have that hard edge that Islands has. Perfect mesh of those three genres. It's like John Coltrane emerged from his hideout shelter after his fake death, joined Miles Davis' Second Quintet, flew out to England and invited Frank Zappa to come along and play guitar. Mind-blowing stuff. Robert Fripp was definitely listening to Coltrane, Davis and Herbie Hancock at the time.

Прото-построковый шедевр, понемногу стает моим любимым студийником KC. Забавно, что пару лет назад мне отсюда разве-что Ladies of the Road нравилась, а теперь она кажется слабым местом и ужасно скучной.

It's not underrated, assholes. It's OVERLOOKED. There's a colossal difference. And yeah, it's a masterpiece.

Yes, it's a great record. The live band around this time was terrific, too; some of my favorite Crimson concert recordings are from the Islands tour.

Very underrated, I can't understand people calling this their worst. The classical compositions are fantastic and I love the combination of jazz, rock and classical in here. The album is definitely in my top 5 King Crimson records and the title track and "Formentera Lady" are among my favorite Crimson songs as well.

Yes, there's definitely a classical influence on this one, particularly on "Song of the Gulls" and the title track, which are both just absolutely beautiful pieces that lend themselves nicely to quiet introspection and reflection. I think Islands has my favorite album cover in the King Crimson catalog too.

@Ennish Great thoughts on Islands. I've never understood why this one and Lizard get so much criticism from fans and music journalists alike. These two albums show off the jazz influence on King Crimson better than any other. I'd love to witness the band doing some Islands material at a live show.

You can not upload the cover because Robert Fripp has a pact with Last fm that they will not share his music or art or anything related. Fripp doesn't want his music to be shared over internet.

Not the best King Crimson Release. A bit boring at times; eventough there's not a single song on the album that is truly horrible. Good but a bit pale compared to brilliant albums like Lizard, Larks & Red.

apart from one or two brief nice moments over the course of this record. I find this to be a snooze-fest. I find the vocals the biggest problem for me on the album they fail to hold it together for me. Really thought i'd like this album after reading up on it. It has proved a disappointment but each to their own I suppose.
