Listening to them in 2023 you can't help but notice they were way ahead of their time. Too bad they disbanded, I think people would appreciate their experimental sounds much more nowadays.

One of the most underrated alternative bands from the noughties. Forever furious they never reached the popularity they deserved - they were bloody good.

It kinda depends on where Mat is in his life and whether he wants to revisit the band experience or not. There are a lot of great bands who break up because it's just not what they're into doing anymore. I was mostly furthering the meme while I deep dived their discography for the first time in a while. A lot of solid stuff.

Just remarked that to my partner today listening to Beauty in Sinking Ships. Mat did in 1996 what the rest of their local scene did 5-10 years later. There were other shoegaze influenced bands at that time ie. Hum & Absinthe Blind (who started around the same time), but the emo/glam hardcore kids came later. Kind of love when artists are a few years early to the party. Though they almost never get the notoriety by the time trends catch up.

can't decide between "shinking ships" and "Young moderns" they are to unique to what kind of mainstream garbage they are doing now.

Oh my god I wrote that on a shirt with nail varnish like an angsty teen wtf was wrong with me? It's kinda sad I associate these guy w angsty teens bc their old stuff is still so good. "They were always underrated, to the point of being unfair" completely

Damn, I love that solo in "Strobe lights". I used to adore this band so much back in the day. Too bad they disappeared just when things started to look up.
