Biography

There are two bands called "Kicker":

1) A punk rock band from Oakland, California
2) A British indie pop band

1) Kicker is a punk rock band that emulates the classic punk rock sound of the late 70s and early 80s in a style extremely reminiscent of UK 82. It has former members of Neurosis, Filth, and Dystopia. They are fronted by Pete the Roadie, who has worked with bands like The Subhumans, Amebix, Neurosis, Fugazi, and Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine. They have released three EPs on various labels, and are going to release their first full-length in late summer/early fall of 2012.

2) Kicker (1998-2005) was an indie pop group started by Jill Drew and Phil Sutton (Comet Gain and Pale Lights) in the UK in 1998. They released their first single, get Rid of Him / Turning Left, in 1999, on the Rough Trade Shop imprint ForUs. The single was played extensively on John Peel and Steve Lamacq's shows on Radio 1. Four more singles followed, on various lables, all receiving play on Radio 1 night time shows. Mostly sold out, they were compiled together in 2002 as the group's first LP 'Fivefortyfives' (Track and Field). After a few line-up changes the original core line up of Drew, Sutton, Laura Bridge (Harper Lee) and Andy Jones were joined by guitarist Ben Phillipson of (18th Day of May, and later Comet Gain. This line-up recorded their second collection 'Our Wild Mercury Years' (Track and Field) in 2005. Following the departures of Jones, Bridge and Phillipson, and Sutton's emigrating to the United Staes, the original Kicker band came to a halt that year.
