“I’d Rather Sleep” is the fifteenth and last track on Kero Kero Bonito's first EP “Intro Bonito” that was self-released on Bandcamp in July 2013.
The song probably deals with mental illness (possibly depression), the discomfort felt by child while growing up and the struggle to regain the sense of innocence lost once you become an adult.
The simplistic language used through the song is quite possibly a way to express the idea of the childish idealization of sleep, which in this song is an analogy for death.
Is worth of notice that the theme of the songs aren’t totally unusual for Kero Kero Bonito. 4 years later, the release of this EP the band would release “Time ‘n’ Place” the bands sophomore full length album. The record deals in many different ways with mental illness with a particular focus on depression.
