Biography
In the late of 2007 the band was formed under the name of "Darbaka on the Free Way", and this was the idea of re-forming the two bands. The first was named "Free Way". The band members are Semo, Islam, & Omar. The other band was named "Darbaka" and the band members are A. Nabil, Gaser, and Monk.
History:
The band “Darbaka” was created in the beginning of 2007, by A. Nabil, Mustafa El Shamy, formerly now in “3al Ahwa band”, and Omar Ezzat. The idea started with forming a Modern and Oriental band that holds three vocalists as has been mentioned before. The band was accompanied with oriental and western instruments, such as the Lute, Guitar, and Violin. “Darabuka” has well been known for the mixture among the different music genres along with the modern oriental style! And for “Free Way” band, they have established an Alternative Rock band with Arabic-speaking lyrics in 2005. This idea was brought by Semo and Islam.
Biography:
In the start of 2008, “A. Nabil”, the Lead Vocalist, and “Semo” the Guitarist, met by chance at the college. At that time, “Nabil” offered the idea to “Semo”, which was inspiring. They took a decision along with the percussionist Gaser and Islam the Bassist as well with the old “Darbaka” band member, “Monk”, and “Free Way” band member “Omar Essam” to unite the two bands, Later in 2009 "Monk" left the band and "Amr Salah" Joined the band.
As it was agreed upon, all members had a problem with naming the band. Therefore they decided a temporary name, titled on "Darbaka on the Free Way". The band performed one concert with that name with a guest of honor “Dr. Ahmad Awaad” (Violin) in summer 2008 at the “College of the Musical Education”. After that, “Gaser” became a guest member because of his military duties, as well as “Dr. Ahmad Awad”. The name of the band became annoying to some of the band members, which gave “Omar” a great idea based on elections to select a new name for the band, to resolve the observed differences among the band members mentalities. This was made by asking each member to write the most names they would think of and like on a piece of paper and one will be chosen with the agreement of the rest of the band. After a very long day of suggestions and zillion of names, they have come to an agreement on “KaYaN” (Entity). The name was very attractive to many people, which helped the band spread it out! The band performed twice at “El Sakia Culture Wheel”, wherein the second time of their performance, a dearest friend to the band members “Mohammad Hassan” has joined to be the band Manager!
The main goal of the band is to make the Rock N' Roll music with all its subcategories such as Rock, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Grunge, Alternative, Progressive, Punk, with a memorable blues and jazz licks and riffs within Arabic-speaking lyrics! Kayan played tens of original tracks, in addition to a heavy metal instrumental and two bass solos! All of the tracks, with many genres included, as well as some tracks consist of many genres, such as “Aragooz”, and “Manbooz”. “Aragooz” (The Joker) is a hard rock song, contains some bluesy and Latin riffs! As for “Manbooz”; this was a very strange song. It is based on a bass track (Islam) in addition it was a great experience for the band, because the song was more psychedelic and some hard rock riffs included! Kayan are now working on new tracks, and they have finished some of them such as “Ghareeb Fy Balady” (Stranger in my homeland) and now they are working on ROCKIN' some stages very soon.
