Biography

Juris Simanovičs is the frontman of classic Latvian and band Bērnības Milicija from Rīga, Latvia.

Riperogrāfija is his debut solo album, released in May 2012 via Tornis. The album can be considered a classic tradition of withholding records - most songs are written and non-professionnal mixed environments, and this has been analogous to using a four-track tape player and tape master recorder.

On June 16th, 2016 Juris released his second solo album Kā samierināties ar savu nenozīmību.

Juris Simanovičs has been active in Latvian musical underground scene for more than 10 years mainly as the frontman of Latvian indie psych band Bērnības Milicija as well as a solo artist. Juris’ credits as a guitarist, drummer and vocalist include work with Divi Pieminekļi, Telekoma, Mūc, Mazie Smirdīgie Kociņi, Ēnu Kaleidoskops, Nepilngadīgā Anna, Them Lemons and others. A practical incentive for Juris’ solo activities, which are mainly limited to rare recordings and solo gigs, was a purchase of a second-hand 4-track recorder in eBay. Juris borrowed a couple of microphones from friends and Tornis studio and during a period of one year he alone or with participation of a few friends recorded about twenty songs. The recordings were done in his apartment, in Tornis and elsewhere. By the beginning of 2009 he had written and finished recording songs for two solo albums. Album Riperogrāfija containing part of this material was released in the spring of 2012. The material for the new upcoming album (with exception of a couple of songs) was written and recorded in year 2014 and 2015 in Riga, Latvia and Vigo, Spain. The album is scheduled for release in spring 2016. He has also in parallel written original scores for such theatre productions as Asins Kāzas directed by Marta Elīna Martinsone (2015, theatre Zirgu Pasts) and “Tal Y Como Vinimos” for the theatre company “Agulla de Marear” (spring 2015, Vigo, Spain).
