"High Flying Bird" (sometimes "High Flyin' Bird") is a song written by American folk and country singer-songwriter Billy Edd Wheeler and first recorded in 1963 by Judy Henske. It was one of the songs sung by Henske in the 1963 movie Hootennay Hoot.
During the mid and late 1960s the song was performed and recorded by many musicians and groups and was influential on the folk rock genre. American psychedelic band Jefferson Airplane played the song at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967 and their performance was included in the film Monterey Pop. The version included on Jefferson Airplane's album "Early Flight" influenced the name of English rock band Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
