That "Race with the devil" cover is fucking awesome, shame it never made it onto the original release.

I used to be a fan of Judas Priest in my early teens. Recently I have checked out some of their albums to see if they were still to my liking, with a very variable result. Some of their stuff is quite terrible even from their classic era. This album, however, is pretty mint.

Their best 70s album for me. This is where it really all came together in terms of finally finding their definitive sound.

Sin After Sin is a great metal album. Fantastic composition and musical execution. I like to think of it as Part 2 of Sad Wings of Destiny. The production has a 70s tone to it but the songs do not sound dated in any way. The songwriting on Sin After Sin is true to classic heavy metal. The songs sound much heavier when played live using more modern sound technology. For proof look at Slayer's South of Heaven where they included a cover of Dissident Aggressor.

Other than the track "Last Rose of Summer", the songs on this album are fantastic. Definitely one of the great Judas Priest albums.

God bless the drum sound of the 70s. [2] This and Rainbow Rising are perfect in that regard.

I prefer Stained Class, Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings to this. This ones a good album though.

Another great 70s Judas Priest album, the range of songs such as Sinner and Call for the Priest is something they'd never do again, and the Last Rose of Summer would indeed be the last rose of anything. The Diamonds And Rust cover is such a good mix between heavy rock and folksy music that even my mum likes it.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the production (Sad Wings of Destiny was much better in this aspect, IMO), but musically this album is easily one of their better ones. [2]
