i mean yeah it’s understandable that one could be a bit annoyed or frustrated that the album is quite short, but to say that the songs themselves **sound** bad seems so far fetched to me cause that doesn’t really have much to do with anything they’re complaining about if we were initially talking about the length of the album yk

this album is way too short for starters. there are eps with a longer runtime then this album. secondly, this album was rushed. George only wrote about half the songs, and once again most of them are too short. and personally, I think the album cover sucks ass but that doesn't have anything to do with the album being good or bad 😭. despite all that, there's quite a lot to love about this album so don't let the hate sway your opinion

yeah but that’s what i’m sayin. it’s understandable to be annoyed that the songs are short but do they actually sound bad? cause that’s what i’m focused on. i personally love pretty much all the songs in terms of how they sound when i listen to them so i couldn’t really be bothered that much that they’re a bit short cause it still sounds good to me. i feel like initially people were being kinda unnecessarily harsh; all because the songs were shorter

it’s still his best by far, but is it true that he only has writing credits on a handful of these tracks? and “glimpse of us” isn’t one of them? huge “what” if true

from a non-fan’s perspective this is his best project by far. the concise length and 2-disc EP gimmick work to its advantage. and i can’t believe 88rising fans are complaining about a record being consistently chill and vibey. it’s probably the most interesting record tied to a major hit song this year

I still love "SMITHEREENS." It's definitely one of those albums (should've been another EP) that grows on you.

When talking about Joji’s discography, “SMITHEREENS” falls in an awkward place. While with releases like his debut album, “BALLADS 1”, and his sophomore album, “Nectar”, it’s always clear where people stand on the projects. “SMITHEREENS” blends that tradition up and gives fans a bit of an awkward look, almost as if it were saying it doesn’t even know what it wants to be as an album, or as fans and people have called it: “an EP”. Like “Nectar”, his 2020 release, “SMITHEREENS” is all over the place musically. However, Nectar had it all in a neat order and it flowed nicely together, and a good example of that would be the run of the tracks “Gimme Love”, “Run” and “Sanctuary”; all different sounding songs, but work together to make a beautiful sound when played in order. “SMITHEREENS” doesn’t really follow that rule, and seems as if the tracks were thrown on this album without any thought. This album has amazing songs, but some just overshadow others and make them feel incomplete.

“SMITHEREENS” isn’t a bad album, and features some of Joji’s best songs to date such as “Glimpse of Us, “Die For You” and “1AM FREESTYLE” (with the honorable mentions of “YUKON (INTERLUDE)” and “NIGHT RIDER”), it’s just a poor track listing order and with more thought and the addition to the songs feeling more complete, this album has the potential to be, if not close to best, Joji’s best album. This is a 7/10 album at best, and am excited to see what Joji does next :). (2/2)

gosh darn inflation making Joji compensate by lowering the size of his projects. Look up 'Joji inflation' to learn more.

i know for some people it’s been hard to connect with this album and think it’s bland or poorly produced but i think it really showcases joji’s sound and now that many of the songs (mostly from side b) are short it’s normal to think they’re not worth it and that they might be hard to remember as it feels they left no impact (200 plays in and i still can’t recognize songs enough yet) but they do grow after a few listens and you start enjoying it however i’m aware albums end up being so much better when you automatically vibe with it on release as that’s how it should be but man idk waited a while for this and i’m happy having more joji

Glimpse of Us ended up being the least likeable song. Dunno if it's because it was forced day by day on TikTok/IG, but the other songs are 10 times better; specially Die for You.
