BM128, I hope two years later you're embarrassed by your previous comments. Yeah sure, off-sync beats don't sit well in our minds. You seem to be forgetting that music and sound is a subjective experience and some people listen to noise music while others like perfectly polished pop. same goes for this album. It tends towards a new experimental side that most JF fans are not used to since the vast majority of what he has made has been more widely accessible. Personally, this album is a pretty big disappointment, but that's ok. I like many different parts in it.

@schorrf : forgive him, the music in this album is new to our world, he needs to get used to it 1st cuz world attacks any creativity at the beginning before they adore it XD!

Borgy, if YOU had actually watched his interviews you'd have seen about how he talks about the link between music and math. Also, saying he doesn't approach his music that way is so wrong it hurts, I mean he wouldn't have any beats in or anything if he didn't care about the timing, which is the math part. Haha, a new level of ignorance has been reached.

Although only a few songs here have strong structures and hooks, the album flows really good and has a consistent touch on the strings of your soul all the way through - if you listen to it that way.

BM128 - shifting emphases doesn't make a beat off-time and is not non-mathematic

That was what I was expecting from Frusciantre after Lutur-Lefr. Not his greatest works though, I am still trying to get into it.

I support the advancement of the music, but merging with rap/hip hop is not something I expected from one of the best guitar players in the world. And now I actually hate Frusciante because of his new album... ... although after The Empyrean came out he was something I wanted to become in the future

Not that sure about such a harsh judgment regarding those off time experiments; if in any case one crucial reason we fall in love with some song is the regular beat pattern, there is no need to continue discovering new material or even get into more complex or extraordinary stuff. JF amazes me with his talent to deliver refreshing and unpredictable music, so his tendency to experiment with that out of time stuff and so on is something really attractive to me. Making me get into new, first uncomfortably sounding stuff is a thing not a lot of musicians are able to do to me and at the same time something pretty awesome. :D

lol @ BM128 thinking he knows why everyone in the world likes music, guess the reason me and john love the album is because we're aliens right?

The out of time beats are found at the end of Uprane, and Walls and Doors is riddled with them (I think a few other songs include them, but I can't name them of the top of my head). Listen, music is math, the subconcious reason we like it so much is because of the timing of the beats and chords; so no, the out of time beats here do not make it good, they ruin parts of it.
