Produced by the legendary DJ Premier, “Paper Trail$” revolves around how money has changed Joey in a negative way. He refers to Wu-Tang’s “C.R.E.A.M.” throughout the track to illustrate the point.
Joey described this song as the proper intro to B4.DA.$$. in an interview with Power 106 Los Angeles:
"To me, ‘Paper Trail$’ was like the real intro to my album. Basically, I wanted to establish the where mind state I was at. The setting is in a place before the money, where I’d come to a point of realization where, you know, all of this stuff is going on in the world, and my generation is so focused on clothes and everything, but we’re still trapped. We really locked into the system… The whole essence of it is that really everything about money ruined everything around us. And this song I took ‘before the money’ to the extreme, I really thought about, like, a time before money even existed. So it was like cash ruin everything around us."
