I rarely write negative stuff on this site, but this album was incredibly generic in music and lyrics. Only this last song is interesting, the prior album sounds written for a teen girl audience. How the hell some bands start out unique and manage to end up generic is beyond me. Local Natives is a similar story. As was Chris Cornell and the band Live. It's like they started caring more for what the listener expected than what they wanted to create.

Fair observation, and I might have agreed on first listen too, but at the end of my second list right now I don't know if I entirely agree. I mean, their music has pretty much always been for teenage girls, so you're either ok with that or you're not. Ultimately it's just pop-rock. I think they've had an impressive development. I haven't been a fan of Damaged or Invented, but if anything on this and Integrity Blues they've been rounding out and innovating on the sounds they marked out with Clarity & Futures, and blending this into the pop format of Bleed American into a modern take.

Thanks, I wrote that because I care and not to simply bash them and feel better about myself. I gave Clarity a listen and it occurred to me that it wasn't lyrically at least how I remembered it, probably some outgrowing going on here too, but musically I also seem to remember them being a bit more varied. Music can also definitely grow on me, it's actually a problem for me that I often love an album 2 years after release :)
