James Cyrus Stewart (born March 2, 1978) is the frontman of the American musical group Xiu Xiu and is also a member of 7 Year Rabbit Cycle. He is a native of Northridge, California; grew up in Los Angeles and currently lives in Durham, North Carolina.
He comes from a musical background; His father, Michael Stewart, was formerly a music producer and software engineer, who worked with artists such as Billy Joel and Tom Jones, and was in the 1960s band We Five. Jamie started out in an R&B cover band before forming IBOPA with his father and seven other people. When IBOPA broke up, he took one of his men, Cory McCulloch, to create Ten in the Swear Jar, which dissolved into Xiu Xiu.
In 2009, he will be touring to promote a special photograph project with artist David Horvitz, who has collaborated with Xiu Xiu in the past. The main project will consist of photographing every person who attends the shows and publish a book about it.
