American pop singer-songwriter 'Jack Douglas Miller' :
Jack Douglas Miller born and raised in Kansas City is a singer, song writer, keyboards as well as a music and film producer. He has always been hard to categorize as an artist and that's part of his appeal. Early on he was influenced by soul, jazz and Rhythm & Blues and later by world and reggae music. Miller visited the Caribbean in 1975 which proved to be an epiphany for him and a life long passion for Jamaican music. Living in Hawaii since 1987 he continues to write and record and 'LOVE HAS A WAY' is his new jazzy soul cd. Recent albums he produced for other artists include 'BE MY LOVER AGAIN' by James McWhinney of BIG MOUNTAIN, 'SKA REGGAE REVIVAL' by the Blue Riddim Band and 'CHANGE THE WORLD' by Marty Dread.
As director/producer Miller's current film is the reggae documentary series, "DREADLOCK ROCK" and "RASTAMAN PSALM" Miller wrote and produced the music on the DREADLOCK ROCK sound track which features THE MIGHTY DIAMONDS, TOOTS & the MAYTALS, BIG YOUTH, WILLIE NELSON, SOUL SYNDICATE, SLY & ROBBIE AND members of THIRD WORLD and the WAILERS.
DREADLOCK ROCK is the story of 'Roots Reggae Music : Then & Now'. From the beginnings of Jamaican popular music in the 1950's through Mento, Ska, Rock Steady and up to the present state of Reggae. We see how Calypso, Rhythm & Blues, African Spirituals and Rastafarian Chants were it's earliest foundations. In the '70's BOB MARLEY became the worldwide ambassador of Reggae music with a Rastafarian message of One Love, One Heart. With rare archival footage of the 'Ska & Reggae Greats' including the SKATALITES, COUNT OSSIE, DESMOND DEKKER, JIMMY CLIFF, BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS, PETER TOSH, JUSTN HINDS, U ROY, DENNIS BROWN, GREGORY ISSACS, the SOUL SYNDICATE, the REVOLUTIONARIES and the MELODIANS. Reggae's influence on artists like JOHNNY NASH, PAUL SIMON, STING, ERIC CLAPTON, the CLASH, the POLICE and NO DOUBT. Presently reggae continues to be a dominate force in contemporary music with the MARLEY BROTHERS, NAS, SKAGGY, MAXI PRIEST, GENTLEMAN, ALBOROSIE, LUCIAN, TAURUS RILEY and GROUNDATION. JACK MILLER's original songs feature TOOTS & THE MAYTALS, the MIGHTY DIAMONDS, BIG YOUTH, BLUE RIDDIM, WILLIE NELSON, BIG YOUTH, the SOUL SYNDICATE, SLY & ROBBIE, MARTY DREAD, JAMES MCWHINNEY of BIG MOUNTAIN and members of THIRD WORLD and the WAILERS. The DREADLOCK ROCK documentary series will be released on dvd in 2011.
