he didn't literally want her to believe in superstitions. the point was that she refused to "see the signs", refused to accept that it wasn't going to work between them, refused to just let him go. believing in superstitions is also about recognising "the signs", that tell one about the future. and he wanted her to see the signs, although of a different kind. it's just drawing a comparison between these two things.
