“Narc“ is the third track on Interpol’s second album, Antics, which was released in 2004. The slang “narc“ is short for narcotics, and it means informant – in another words, a rat. Someone who gives information to the authorities for personal gain or as a revenge act. See this Wikipedia arcticle for more information.
As Paul Banks described it as a “pretty seedy song” in a NME Magazine dated sometime before the album was released (excerpt below), the name fits.
“Narc was written while we were on tour and is one of my favourites. I like exploring themes and then transposing them through a filter – this one involves insinuations of forcibly getting someone to do something. It’s a pretty seedy song.”
