This album it is what it is. Just good. It's well produced-mixed & Maria's vocals is on point. There's 2 or 3 songs where you can see Maria showing her melodic vocals just like the first albums -she screams, sings and twists her voice like a pro. The guitars and the heaviness are there. As an old school fan I've learned to not expect much from them. Mother is good album. Period.

I was ready to come down hard on this album last night lol but i'm glad i slept on it and gave it another spin in a more refreshed state. I enjoyed it a bit more this time, and if you've only heard it once, give it another spin or 2 and see what ya think after that. FIrst off i don't find this album amazing or great in any capacity, but it's solid for what it is. Not sure where i place it in the bottom 3 (No particular order - Ritual, Mother, Black Widow) although i think i enjoy it more than BW, BW being my least fav. The fact that there are 3 covers on this album was concerning right off the bat. That's never usually a good sign. It appears more like a lazy attempt to fill an album most of the time when you're running out of ideas. 9 originals/14 tracks? ..that really is a shame. I just don't like the fact those covers are apart of the main tracklist. all 3 or at least 2 would've been better served as b-sides for a special edition when those other 2 or 3 slots could've been originals

Let's face it they've lost that magic they once had on the first few albums, there's no denying that, but i'll always come back and check out the next installment/s if they have much left in them that is, which i just don't think they do at this point. Maybe looking at 1 or 2 more albums imo. For whatever the reason i actually enjoyed the softer songs more on this album. not counting any covers, my Highlights would be Mother and Legacy. Holy Man is pretty catchy as well

I agree with you in most things. It hurts me to do this cause I really like this band. I don't think they've lost their magic, It's more like they're recycling ideas but don't know how to twist them a little bit to make 'em seem "different". Mother feels more like a metal ballad album type. What bugs me A LOT it's that they had 3 years!!! to make a great album, but they present us 2 interludes (The Beginning being very disjointed from what it's supposed to do) and 3 covers, 3 fucking covers that if we pay close attention only one blends into Mother's theme, roughly, the other 2 could have been tossed away. I thought they were gonna push further the themes addressed in Ritual and they kinda did lyrically in some songs, BUT they also kinda get a little repetitive, both lyrically and sonicly. I like and enjoy the album but it definitely left me craving for more after the precise and strong work they delivered on Ritual.
