This is the closest to Come Clarity out of all their other albums, yet some Come Clarity seem to hate this one so much, go figure... :/

I found out about metal in general in 2007 and got pretty into In Flames as well many other bands but they were one of my favorites. I got this album on CD when it came out and saw them headline later that year, good times.

I'm giving this album some listens these days and it made me feel a bit old: I clearly remember when it came out in 2008, it was around this time that I was discovering this band and after digging the old stuff I had listened it. Liked it at first listen - and I still like, a lot - but also remember that even BEFORE this album people were shitting on IF for "changing their sound" (more than a decade ago people seemed to enjoy talking trash about their 2002-06 era). Yes, they did changed their sound over the years, but the real core from the "In Flames sound", which is the melodic guitar work, is all over there despite all the "modern" and "alternative" elements.

I might play this song on youtube. The mirror's truth is a song about my face.

Some of my favourite tracks of theirs on this record. As Jesper himself said: "I think that 'A Sense of Purpose' is a very underrated album, actually 'cause I think it had all the elements that In Flames is about [...]"

I dont understand the hate at all, this is good as some of their later stuff, they older album are best, but this is a real good CD.

Why the hate on this album? Sure the production is bad and there are a few dud songs. But alot of it is brilliant. This album got me into In Flames back when I was 17. Admittedly upon listening to the likes of Clayman, TJR and Whoracle I realise they are far superior. And my favourite album would have to be TJR (December Flower, my god). Though Whoracle (I love Jester Script Transigured) and Clayman are pretty much there aswell. I do wish Siren Charms hadnt sucked so much tho...

What is that random japanese track? Is it decent unlike the shit that's actually on the album?

Incredible album. If In Flames had gone back to this style instead of the half-hearted Siren Charms I'd be much happier.

I do actually like this album somewhat. However, not better than anything up through Clayman by any means. I hate the dull, muddy production though. Some cool riffs, fast songs, and good guitar leads. My two least favorite In Flames albums are STYE and SOAPF.

All the songs use a similar riff and the lyrics are corny as hell. Probably the worst album by In Flames.
