Really not their best album. The songs are very similar sounding, the production and the vocals are hard getting used to and Abbath is just not a good drummer. From the immortal discography no album what you absolutely must have.

My favorite Immortal album. The way this thing just bombards you with guitar noise and endlessly pounding, jackhammer drumming (off time or not, doesn't bother me here), coupled with Abbath's constricted, blood-curdling shrieks and hisses is awesome. Someone likened it once to being trapped in a blizzard, and I agree with that comparison. There's no finesse here, just nonstop aggression and sonic fury, and it's glorious.

The drums are so sloppy and off time on this album. Fun thing we noticed back in the day - on the cover art one of the guitarists has his hand over the name of the guitar he is holding (Ibanez) and I believe this is because he was endorsed by another guitar according to the liner notes. Very "black metal" lol.

pure raw uncut chaotic energy unlike anything before it. a unique milestone of an album that really showed Immortal doing their own thing in their own way. Leaders not followers. I remember at the time it blew everybody's mind that heard it for the first time.

The underrated follow up to Pure Holocaust. It's exactly the same formula but actually outdoes its predecessor.

It sounds like it was recorded live. But that is not a bad thing. I wouldn't go so far as to call it sloppy. It's just... authentic.

Best rec of them imo. Timeless within one of the best blackish vocals ever! Great riffs also, only dc sucks sometimes. Simple but unique cover artwork. Got definetely a better production sound as both previous and following record (ain't including their work from 1999).
