IDK and Florida’s Denzel Curry team up on "Dog Food", the second single for IDK’s “Simple.” The KAYTRANADA-produced track sees the two touch on police activity, systematic racism, and the grim scenes it results in in their respective neighborhoods. The term “Dog Food” is common slang for heroin, due to it’s similarities in appearance to dog food in it’s raw, brown rock form. Slang, as such as “dog food,” is often used to be discreet when talking about illegal activity or substances to not jeopardize oneself and fall into trouble with the law, directly tying the title into the track’s main themes of caution, police activity, and drug distribution.
Dog Food was first teased by IDK with a picture of him and Denzel together in the studio shared via his community Discord server on March 22, 2022. The track’s title was then later revealed via a subscription phone update service for fans of IDK on April 15, 2022.
On April 20, 2022, IDK posted a snippet to his TikTok. In the coming days, he’d announce the track would release on April 29, 2022. It released alongside a visualizer, defining the term “dog food” in the context of the track.
“Dog Food” marks IDK’s seventh officially released collaboration with Zel.
