“FAVORITE MISTAKE” is the third and final single teasing Giveon’s debut album "TAKE TIME". The song explores the emotions of knowingly stepping out on your partner. Giveon is fully aware he is being unfaithful to his lover but the connection he has with this new person is too great to pass up. They both know their actions are wrong and the situation won’t end well but in the moment, it still doesn’t matter.
By the end of the song, Giveon is blaming the girl, despite him being the one who cheated. In an interview with Vice, he clarifies how it became her fault:
“Some people are really in denial like that. They really are oblivious to something and don’t appreciate it until it’s gone. The way I write, if I feel that way about someone I’ll switch it. If I left a situation because I feel like they took me for granted, I’ll write a song from the perspective of the person who didn’t appreciate me.”
