Upon watching George Winston play live in Torrington, CT in 2010, one may say they can feel the palpable sounds pour from the Steinway Piano. Strolling onto the stage clad in comfortable jeans and stocking feet, George carries a weathered and well worn guitar case and places it next to his bench. Appearing shy and being a man of few words, George introduces the piece he is about to play, and begins. Upon ending, George nods and states, “thank you, thank you very much”. The “Winter Set” includes 14 songs total. Two are played on the acoustic guitar using “slack key” style. One is played on the harmonica. All are breathtaking. "Moon" is the fourth song of the First Set. The concert was held in the Warner Theatre. A brief intermission invited one to enjoy a peanut and chocolate snack before settling in for the second set. Upon returning to seats, George opens the second set with, “This is what I call the Winter Set, I do one other, it is called the “Summer Set”. A smile spreads across many a face as the tranquil sounds flood the venue. Nothing can describe the awe and perplexed head tilting that occurs when George reaches into the piano to pluck the wires by hand. The sound is unique yet vital to the songs. There is no experience like George Winston live.
