Biography
Gel-Sol is Andrew Reichel of Seattle, Washington. With an intimate knowledge of computer-based composition, Gel-Sol is informed by both ambient and IDM material, Gel-Sol’s dichotomous sound spans raw extremes. Loud and soft, consonant and dissonant, cat and dog; Gel-Sol meanders back and forth between poles.
Gel-Sol’s debut album, Music Made For You…And By You, I Mean Me (aka 1104), was released in December of ‘04 by Nottingham, UKʼs collectorsʼ label, Em:t Records. Compared to the likes of the Orb and Future Sound of London, Gel-Sol integrates vast soundscapes with swirling synthetics and alien beats. Also a member of 302 Acid, improvisation plays an integral role in the way they approach both composition and live performance. The result is a heavily-layered sound that draws influence from dub, ambient and IDM. Even Calls (aka 0005), was released in May ʻ05, also on Em:t Records.
Gel-Sol's sophomore release, Unifactor, will be available in April/May '06.
Gel-Sol has the privilege of performing at a variety of festivals such as the Big Chill, The Masterpeace Festival, The Gaian Mind Festival and the Phoenix Festival.
