Not all rap rock/metal with left wing lyrics is comparable to Rage Against the Machine. Flobots has a lot more grassroots Americana fusion. The closest they got to Rage was White Flag Warrior, and even that was closer to punk rock than funk metal.

Noenemies is rather...plain. The rapping was always honestly the weaker link in their style, so it's a bit unfortunate that they have so many songs structured like standard rap. Blood in the River could be great with more violin/bass funkiness, but even that one felt a bit undynamic for them.

Wow, I listened to Circle and the Square with a lot of focus and I have to ask...did they cross the line from experimental/crossover into avant-garde? The genres used are obvious, but the way they are fused on every single part makes them truly unlike any other band I know. Truly badass group!

I recently discovered that album even though I've been listening to them for a few years before it came out. Anyway, I wasn't expecting much but I thinks it's a solid album. I still find it amazing that their popularity dropped off after Handlebars.

Same, but after the new single, I'm kinda seeing why...there's some good lyrics in it, but it has an overarching 'white guilt' element I loathe.

I only watched the video once but I remember I liked the message, but it wasn't very catchy. Although, I think it's not as deep of a message as in the past albums. Still very excited to see what the rest of the album is about.

Soooo glad that I heard White Flag Warrior, Survival Story sounds so much more fleshed out with guitar added. Critics only panned the album for having some subtlety, it's something very missing in the political hip hop area. It's still direct, just not beating you over the head with it all the time and seems so much more researched than most political hip hop. That, plus the little funky bits and the violin really make their second album a gem on first listen...definitely a band that's far more than Handlebars, COmbat was actually my favorite on the first album.

"The Circle in the Square" was horrible, and the recent tracks aren't much better. What a shame :/
