98.12.28 男達の別れ (Otokotachi no Wakare) is the third and final live album by Japanese dream pop band FISHMANS. As the title indicates, it was recorded on December 28th 1998: the last day of the "Otokotachi no Wakare" tour. The tour, which was intended as a farewell to bassist Yuzuru Kashiwabara, ultimately served as a last hoorah to frontman Shinji Sato and to FISHMANS as a whole, as Sato suddenly passed months later. That night, they played many of their most widely acclaimed songs and concluded with a full performance of their sixth studio album LONG SEASON.
Dwelling in obscurity in the west for years, 98.12.28 男達の別れ has slowly earned recognition in several online music communities and a reputation as one of the finest live recordings of all time. It has garnered praise for the excellence of its live performances and arrangements, with the live rendition of LONG SEASON in particular deemed by some to surpass the studio version in quality and universally hailed as a highlight, if not the peak, of FISHMANS' artistry.
