“Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes” is the first track on Fall Out Boy's 2008 album "Folie à Deux". The band chooses to open the album with a slow introduction that launches into an anthem of heartbreak and misfortune. “Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes” introduces themes that are prevalent throughout the rest of the album, including romantic ideas that are conflicted.
Some fans have noticed that this song has a similarity in chord progression when compared to The Who’s “Baba O'Riley”. Since the emphasis on the first note of this three-chord progression is an octave lower than The Who’s rendition, it’s probable that this was unintentional.
The song’s title is a reference to a lodge and bowling team that Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble belonged to on the ‘60s cartoon TV show The Flintstones. However, it may also refer to the Loyal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (Now called Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes), that has the motto: “No Man Is At All Hours Wise”, hinting at the admittance of the disloyalty of lovers.
