I remember seeing them open for Children of Bodom and Iced Earth about 20 years ago, checking out their newest albums now :)

when I was 16 I got one of those cool new ipods with the colour screen that let you have the album covers and I was listening to Monday Morning Apocalypse and this cool straight girl I had a sad crush on in my geography class saw it and she said "ew why are you listening to russian convicts" and then I wasn't hung up on her any more after thgat.

Strongly agreed, it feels like Torn 2.0 to my ears. Some strong tracks, but no clear ideas/direction. Just my opinion, some of the tracks could have benefited from more length and detail. Also, a lengthy opus would have been icing on the cake here, so to speak. At the minimum, however, it is a strong album in the minimum sense. Somewhere between 7 to 8 out of 10, for mine.

Interesting. Out of the last 7 albums Torn sounds like their darkest to me (with Escape Of The Phoenix close second) while A Heartless Portrait sounds the lightest.

It was more about the ideas expressed, not the sound itself :) Even then, MMA takes the cake on the lighter sound (as much as I love that album)

I was impressed by the new album at first, then we had a falling out, but now I'm loving it even more. Still think The Atlantic is slightly better but holy crap this is great!

I'm in love with this band again the same way I feel when I first heard solitude dominance tragedy.

I must be in the minority here, although I feel like they've gone backwards creatively on three fronts with EotP. Production-wise, after repeated listens, they've brought back similar muddiness to that of Glorious Collision, which is a disservice to the listener and also there was little exploration in ideas both musically and lyrically. Still a good album, but not as memorable as The Atlantic or Hymns for the Broken.

I'm trying to do absolutely everything to like this band's music, which is amazing, but the vocals from what I've heard so far are exactly the same, no variety, no dynamics, I don't know

Escape of the Phoenix is absolutely fantastic! The whole album slaps from start to finish. My favorite song at the moment would be Leaden Saints.

Excellent! Same choice for me =). It has a familiarity about it that reminds me of "Weightless" which was my fave off "The Atlantic", but man once the Chorus hit, that's really all it took for me. Yeah i definitely felt the same way at first lol, but looking into it a bit, i no longer believe it to be a mistake but more of an Unconventional choice. For one; It's clear that Tom says "Mourn" in the song and it also reads like that on the cover art for the Single, as it will no doubt read on the back of the physicals, but also i think i now understand why it was chosen that way, just not sure how to put into words, i could be wrong though, but even if i were correct... it would still make the most sense to just use "Mourns"

Same for me with "Weightless" being my favorite from The Atlantic :-) I wanted to believe your explanation at first too, but since the second day after the release, the band itself writes "Mourns" on their Facebook page....so it had to be a mistake. So what, happens, music is still phenomenal. :-)

That's weird, my reply never went through. Not surprised you also favour "Weightless" man, that song is absolute Boss. lol yeah glad to see that's been cleared up, i have since seen a comment where they replied to someone basically saying you pick which one ya like between the 2, but it should be "this one" (Mourns). Exactly =)

It was so good wasn't it! I'm surprised i was able to catch the stream to be honest lol it was after 5 am over here in Australia when it started and i had been up all night after drinking a bit. Nice! =), would love to catch their show the next time they manage to make it over here and i don't believe they've toured here since 2007 :(

Some good shit you're smoking there, HFTB and TSW are stellar. Not simply my opinion, it is the general consensus for good reason.

First impression... I am loving the new album, A Secret Atlantis and This Ocean standing out so far. Though I still have more listening to do...

New album "The Atlantic" is tentatively due in January. Hoping for something a little more progressive this time. "The Storm Within" wasn't bad, but was a little too commercial sounding, as sOULiON alluded to below. I don't think they'll ever match "In Search of Truth" or "Recreation Day", but here's hoping. :-)
