Gonna be interesting to see them live in a couple of weeks; I haven't listened to them that much after 2010 and don't really know what to expect (not much I guess)

Equilibrium going arena metal is so funny holy shit, it's so over for this band

Okay - so far I've only ever listened to Turis Fratyr (loved it since it was released back in the days) but then somehow lost interest in band, just wasn't into this kind of metal too much anymore. Then I came back to them, listening to Renegade as I was curious what they're up to today and well - wasn't too impressed. More like totally confused. :D BUT I now finally after all those years listened to Sagas and wtf!? Why has no one ever mentioned to me what I've missed out on?

With the release of Shelter I think it's safe to say, they are never coming back to their former glory. This is an entirely new band..

Exactly. The new version of the band is crap. They have lost their uniqueness and beauty.

renegades is really good. turis fratyr is really good. erdentempel is really good. shrug.

Yes, they were never really a "true brutal metal band," but how? How in one album they were able to so abruptly jump from folk metal to shitty core ?!

They didn't perform this transition between two albums. I think you can see the path evolving in/after Rekreatur. The albums slowly went in a more "forced to be epic" way and away from the older style with more pagan elements.

That's a great album, but in my opinion comes after the untoppable Sagas and Turis Fratyr on close second place.

Equilibrium (and the new shitty album) is like that successful lawyer who fell out of favor and became a crack and meth addict. When he ran out of money in order to pay for his vice, he was forced to prostitute himself in a dirty alley, giving blowjobs to drunken scums for a couple of cents....

Not the death of Equilibrium, but weird album for sure. It's like Equilibrium marked their opus magnum (at least I see Erdentempel as it) and lost their essence - which they proved with "Armageddon". And "Renegades" is somehow similar, but it's also kinda similar to Erdentempel - taking catchiness and folkiness from this album. Therefore it's just "Equilibrium in fast food form". And it's good to eat fast food from time to time.

А ведь 1-2 альбома назад у них были добродушные песни про леса и "кровь на снегу". Это какой-то немецкий фолк Сони Синдикат.

I've been a fan since Turys Fratyr was released. Everyone can blather all they want about Sagas being their best, but that spot actually belongs to Rekreatur. It'll likely always be my favorite (11 out of 10), but Erdentempel and Apocalypse were also 10/10. Renegades has grown on me in a few short days to where I'll give it a 9/10. But you know what, give me a band that can kick ass in a NEW way every 2-3 years over one that hits Repeat. I don't automatically accept this kind of change from every band, no way, but Equilibrium does it right. The last thing I'd want from them is "Sagas II."

I agree with you except I just can't stand Renegades. Rekreatur is their best for sure.

I want to hate the new album because of how much off-the-rails it is compared to what I expected from the band but I just can't deny that, in it's own category of "gloriously dumb modern melodic melodeath (tm)" it is a damn fun listen. Plus, there are hints of folk metal all over the place which make it somehow stand out among its' peers.

This. The overall sound is still super unique. The melodic framework also is pure Equilibrium and some people are somehow too deaf to realize that.

The compositions suffer greatly from Rene having to adjust them to the bland vocals of Robse. Rene still has a lot of talent, but he's mixing his awesome music with generic crap to match Robse. Felt sad listening to the new album while imaging what the compositions would sound like without vocals in mind.

I don't think Rene adjusted anything because of Robse, plus there's also Skar and Dom singing on "Renegades". He's mixing his "awesome music with generic crap" because he's been tired of repeating himself or trying to match the expectations of some close-minded fans that keep demanding "Sagas 2.0" over and over again.

Also funny you should call me close-minded as my profile has a lot more musical diversity than yours. Being tired of repeating yourself has nothing to do with appealing to a different audience. There are hundreds of ways Rene could change the sound dramatically with a better instrument (the instrument being Robses vocals) or even without them altogether, without losing attention and still pleasing a lot of the demanding, open-minded fans. Which the first 4 albums managed to do spectacularly well.

I didn't call you close-minded at all, just adressed to that topic in general because I've been reading quite a lot of these demands lately. To be more precise, I don't think Rene chose the style present on "Renegades" because of Robse. Or maybe he did, we can't really evaluate the situation as outsiders. To me it just feels like Rene's outgrown the folksy, mythological approach for now, thus doing things the way he does on "Renegades". He already started to implement his modern and conscious mindset in "Apokalypse" and "Eternal Destination" for example, but now the overall sound adjusted to these topics. Now that I think about it, it's not even as surprising as I thought it was after the first spin - it's consequential. Of course there are hundreds of ways Rene COULD change the sound dramatically but he chose this one and I guess I'm fine with that. It's his band, not mine.

Of course it's fine, we got amazing songs from him and there is enough other music out there to last a lifetime :)

Okay guys, I didn't listen to this band in a while, they were a damn good and original (not terribly so, but enough to have their own trademark sound) folk metal band. First I see some random Equillibrium album on my Apple Music that looks like some generic modern metal trash, I'm like "well some other guys then, will check it out later". Now I get an ad from Nuclear Blast telling me it's THE new Equillibrium album, I check the title track/single out and WHAT THE FLYING FUCK, IS THIS MODERN MELODEATH NOW?! I mean, WHAT the fuck happened and WHEN, did I miss some gamechanger album or what?

I want to like Path of Destiny, but I really don't… It sounds like a completely different band with dubstep and rap. I'm totally lost. Now I have to pretend Zerfall is their new album to move on…

"Turis Fratyr" & "Sagas" are both excellent. "Rekreatur" is not bad, after that, lost interest in them. I think Helge Stang vocals were much stronger than Robse's.
