Enablers began when Pete Simonelli asked guitarist Kevin Thomson to collaborate on a joint spoken word/musical project. Joeseph F. Byrnes accepted the invitation to play the drums and guitarist Joe Goldring joined the band. Their first album, End Note, (on Neurot Recordings) revealed qualities previously unseen in the spoken word/rock genre. Flirtations with heavy sounds and improvisational soundscapes defined End Note.
The release of Output Negative Space (Neurot Recordings) in 2006 saw a band and its sound fully realized. New dynamics and new explorations in vocals, rhythm, and texture brought out the best aspects of the band. Musically bolder and more innovative in scope than End Note, Output Negative Space showed Enablers to be capable of dramatic and provocative music.
With the 2009 release of Tundra, Enablers are an unafraid and confident band. Compositional latitude, melody, and rhythmic intricacy are the hallmarks of Tundra. The band’s solid gifts for songwriting and poetry come straight from the heart and truly shine on Tundra.
