The story of Elvenking is: they began as a folk-metal band with power metal roots (Heathenreel to Winter Wake), then experimented with dark prog (The Scythe), then became full-on arena rock (Red Silent Tides to Era), and then achieved their absolute full potential as a symphonic pagan metal band (Pagan Manifesto to now). I've enjoyed their development and like pretty much everything they've put out. They're my #2 most played power-metal-and-related band, with Kamelot being #1.

Awesome band, but sometimes I don't understand half words from their singing)

I hold it in the same regard as Secrets of the Magick Grimoire. I am skeptical that anything will ever top the Pagan Manifesto, so I have grounded my expectations accordingly for THTA album, and did the same for this one. They both have great songs that will enter my Best Of compilation for this band, so I'm happy.

Out of the last three it's pretty evident The Pagan Manifesto holds the top spot but both SotMG and RotR are exceptional albums. I still can't wrap my head around this renaissance of sound they're having, their vigour and passion should serve as an example to all of their peers. May the inspiration and work ethic last for as long as possible, at this rate they're well on the way to becoming my favourite metal band.

It is still growing on me, but I find it'll be difficult to top SotMG which I liked hard, even more than The Pagan Manifesto.

Still don't get why people don't like Red Silent Tides, sure it's different but musically it's some of their best work and has some of their most well written songs.

The Pagan Manifesto is a GREAT album as well. I had lost interest after Red Silent Tides, but came back to Pagan Manifesto and it has become my all time Elvenking favorite album.

Glad to see Petalstorm pop up as a bonus track on Grimoire. That means it's on Spotify and other services finally after being Japan-exclusive for so long. It's such a fun song.

The new album is a grower for sure but once you're in you'll discover some very good songs that complement the old EK era very well. The Wolves Will Be Howling Your Name could be straight from Heatenreel (especially the storydriven lyrics, it's magical really). Their songwriting progressed immensely and the mix of power metal and folk is just perfect.

For me, this band lost its way a little after The Winter Wake. It wasn't until Era that they returned to their glorious folk-metal roots, culminating in the spectacular Pagan Manifesto. As always, I'm always very concerned about the follow-up to a masterpiece, so we'll see how Grimoire goes ...

Is it lame to reply to your own comment? Regardless, we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief, because Grimoire is awesome. Thank the heathen gods.

I wasn't a big fan of The Scythe, so I stopped listening to them. Two Tragedy Poets and Red Silent Tides didn't wow me, but I kept the faith, which was restored with Era, and then generously uplifted with The Pagan Manifesto. They're on a roll now.

The new live DVD is pretty phenomenal. Was never very keen on their live performances, but they really stepped up!

I don't understand how this band released one of the best power metal albums ever in The Scythe and can't put together another album better than passable...remarkable

So do people not enjoy Grandier's Funeral Pyre? It has the least amount of listens and I haven't really seen anyone talking about it on the internet. It's not on my favorite song on the album, but probably has one of the greatest choruses I've ever heard. Am I alone on this one?

new record, along with their last album "Era", are two positive steps for the band! Been a fan since the first album and it's great to hear how they've grown.
