I actually think it's his best album. It's definitely the one I listen to most.

"Prog for songwriters" is exactly why I am obsessed with this album. Endlessly complex yet with some of his most beautiful melodies.

So because he was influenced by the Beach Boys, he can't make an album that, in my view, is vastly superior?

This shits on Beach Boys? Listen to "Let The Wind Blow" without the BB you have no Elliot Smith.

It's almost like "Prog" for songwriters... pushing the technical limits of the pop song and pop structure. It shits over the Van Dyke Parks/Beach Boys stuff everyone raves about.

Neglected this for a while because it has such a different feel from his others. I mean, all his albums are different, hence him being good - but this one in particular, has a certain softness to it that the others don't. But now I love its softness.
