The song was originally inspired by Cormac McCarthy's book The Road. The title of the song is a direct quote from the book. The lyrics of the song were, however, changed when Editors got the request to put it on the second Twilight soundtrack. To make it more fitting for the soundtrack words like 'son' were removed. Eventually the full band song was changed into a piano/strings only song. The original song could for a long time only be found as a bootleg from Belgian festival Rock Werchter '08 until it was recorded at the same festival in 2010 and was released in continental europe via iTunes thanks to PIAS-records
