The intro is beautiful, the outro solo is outstanding and the song itself is very emotional. The only thing that ruins the perfection in my ears is the transition right after the intro. After this beautiful, melancholic piece of music we suddenly get something that sounds like Rush's Spirit of Radio on crack. Still, that's only a short moment in a 13 minute long track.

People who find this song boring have no emotions. People who find the lyrics cringe have strong hate emotions against their own father.

Anyone who says "Petrucci isn't an emotional guitar player," I will direct to this song and not say another word.

Adoro el final de esta canción, una de las mejores cosas que he oído en toda la música que he oído en mi vida.

this song made me cry like a child. One of the most emotional lyrics of DT and beautiful music. The last four minutes definitely are shaped by the hands of God. [4]

Seriously, why isn't this the last song on the album? Nothing could possibly top this.

This, along with the "carpe diem" story in "Lifting Shadows", is just so heartbreaking and moving. I have a copy of the page with the former on my pinboard and a signed poster of the DT 2007 tour on my wall on which MP kindly wrote the words "Carpe Diem" for me when I had the chance to meet & greet the band in 2009.
