Every couple of years I give this album another listen to see if I can comprehend what people see/hear in this album and every time I am no closer to understanding. The keys, drums and vocals, drenched in as much sibilance and reverb as you would expect from the mid-80s, effectively made this album dated even by its release in 1992. For all the technical wizardry on display, so often the production, mixing, and lyrical choices bog down this album with insipid Journey-like cliches. Thankfully this band would turn it around later in the decade.

Очень много охуенных вокальных партий от Джеймса,но тут его потенциал не раскрылся

After using the internet for roughly 20 years, one thing I've learned is that people using the terms "underrated" and/or "overrated" usually are dumb as a bag of hammers or simply don't have an own opinion. It's just a whole lot of nothing. Elaborate on that or shut the fuck up!

Love how this is most close to prog rock than prog metal. It has a serenity that no other DT album got.

Great album, one of the standards for prog metal. They sound like Yes with down-tuned guitars at points on this album. I wouldn't call it the best prog metal album of all-time, but it's up there.

Haha, I don't even remember making this comment! Perhaps it is the best prog metal album of all-time, but it would have to be on a short list for me which includes Tool's "Lateralus", Queensryche's "Operation: Mindcrime", "Ritual" by Shaman, "No Exit", "Perfect Symmetry" and "Parallels" by Fates Warning, "Carved in Stone" and "Tyranny" by Shadow Gallery, and of course "Awake" and "Metropolis Pt. 2" by Dream Theater. Of course, I'm no expert on progressive metal, I have many albums I haven't listened to yet, as I'm a relative newbie to the genre, but those are my favorites as of 2019. We'll see how this list evolves in the future. :D

Oh, and check out "Ark" and "Burn the Sun" by Ark as well. Must've slipped my mind yesterday, but those albums are fantastic as well.

This is a perfect prog album...how many bands can claim to have put out a perfect album ? You can count those bands with the fingers on your one hand.

This is a great album but it would really be better without that horrible triggered drum sound the label forced on them. As a result I usually find myself listening to live versions of the songs a lot more often than the album itself. Luckily the songs rule live.

Especially from the early 90's .. when LaBrie could still hit the awesome high notes. :)

It's the ultimate progressive metal album. I highly doubt anything will compare to it in the future

Metropolis and Learning to Love are masterpieces but because of the first two tracks I can't say that about the album as a whole
