Biography

Formed in March of 1999, Down Cycle began as jam sessions between drummer Barry Knain and guitarist Robert Bruce. They soon enlisted the veteran talents of guitarist David "BUK" Cebula and bassist Todd P., who had been playing together in several different bands since high school, to help flesh out the material they were working on. As soon as the first song was written the group realized they had something real going. Acknowledging the fact they had a viable band the group began looking for a vocalist to complete the package. A mutual friend of the band members, Mike Bonavita, expressed an interest in trying out. "It was real easy," explains Todd, "we had been discussing what we were looking for in a singer, someone who would compliment what we were trying to get across sonically but wouldn't sound run of the mill. Mike came in and immediately fit the bill before we actually started auditioning people. It was perfect." Within a couple of months the group had put together enough material to test the waters of the triangle rock scene.

Down Cycle quickly created a legion of fans in a short period of time. Their often dark and emotional, moody and aggressive, melodic delivery was just what heavy music fans were craving. Todd P. adds "it was strange, we had all these 5 and 6 minute songs that were not in your face moshing type stuff and we didn't know if we'd be able to hold everybody's attention, but from the start people would stay put and listen to every note intently, just sort of swaying to the rhythm. It was cool, and when we did hit them with something shorter and more frenetic, they'd go off." Demand for recorded material quickly became overwhelming and they went into the studio to do a short live demo. This disc immediately caught the ear of local management company 3rd Floor Entertainment who financed new studio time and duplication of the completed project. Red Eye distribution also then stepped in with wishes to distribute the CD throughout its' network of music retailers. Set for release in June of 2000, "breathe this life" gives the band the ammo they need to begin expanding their live show throughout the region. No matter where they go, the audience embraces them, becoming part of the cycle that spins onward….
