A song of pride, defiance and emotion from the musical La Cage Aux Folles.
In the scene in which the song appear the singer has just been told by his life partner that because it is very obvious by his mannerisms that he is gay, he will not be allowed to meet the ultra-conservative parents of his son's fiancee.
The song starts with a tinge of sorrow but soon turns into a resounding proclamation "I am what I am".
