Biography

The 1976 Brazilian supergroup made up of four of the biggest names in the history of music in Brazil: Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Maria Bethânia.

Doces Bárbaros is also the name of the 1976 double album by the group of the same name. It was recorded June 24 of that year at Anhembi Stadium in São Paulo, with the purpose of touring Brazil to celebrante ten years of success in their individual careers. The group was the subject of a 1977 documentary directed by Jom Tob Azulay. In 1994, they performed a tribute concert to Mangueira school of samba. Time passed and in 2002 the four artists from Bahia got together again for two performances in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The historic reunion, recorded on Copacabana Beach and watched by 100,000 people, was transformed into a documentary film, entitled Outros (Doces) Bárbaros, directed by Andrucha Waddington.

The 1976 album was listed by Rolling Stone Brazil as one of the 100 best Brazilian albums in history.
