Complex, intense, engaging, contradictory even, talking about an empty place while the music is crowded and over produced. Her voice is amazing, she's all powerful on this one.

A very theatrical song with much more going on than might meet the ear without close listening. The voice is lilting at times, soulful and jazzy at others, and more than talented enough to meet the octave jumping demands of the writers. The chorus reminds me of spiritual choir---of course that's where they and Dionne came from. Love the sounds of their voices (particularly the alto). The vocals are supported by ascending/descending strings that are never over the top and punctuated by a period horn line---an excellent arrangement. And a surprise at the end! A full scale gospel piano complements the staccato lead vocals and soaring background. Take a close listen to this one---sad in essence but redeeming. Once you get past the over the top lyric (that I happen to love) you'll be amazed.
