my honest take, after many attempts with this album over more than a decade (including buying the deluxe vinyl set when it came out), is that there are about 4 or 5 songs here that totally live up to the potential and expectations that surrounds pacific ocean blue (the late-life, grizzled beach boy's lost masterpiece; that gorgeous cover art; the beautiful and mysterious title). and then the rest seems to be well executed too, but really not in line with the mythos...and i'm not sure it all hangs together in the end. the overall flow feels strange, though it does end magnificently with those last few songs. it's just a deceptively strange album, overall. i think maybe in another decade or so i'll find my way inside the record's complete worldview, but for now, it remains elusive...

those 4 or 5 songs, though, i really do love. been playing them loads lately. they seem to intertwine nicely with my favorite songs off of dave crosby's best album, incidentally

This is a beautiful little record, Wilson shows that he has picked up some production tips during his year as a Beach Boy. Difference is in that where Beach Boys uses a plethora of instruments to create a sunny day at the beach, while Pacific... sounds more like sundown in a cold summer breeze. What i find most striking is the contrast between Wilsons worn voice, and the beautiful sweeping use of strings. Truly wonderful! 8/10

I swear I cook by this re-release and I always either end up singing along and dancing around with utensils in hand or just starinfg into the sink... Wistful it is, yet with an underlying mastery, however haphazard...

sublime. i never knew Dennis had this much in him as a solo artist until getting the reissue last year.

'River Song' is like the lovechild of the Beach Boys and Elton John — and that's a good thing!

Classic Dennis Wilson album available again along with unreleased Bambu. Horay!

And Bamboo is now spelled as Bambu, as Dennis apparently intended it to be spelled.
