“Black Dice” is a song about the power to invoke nuclear war, and the fragility with which it is averted. Much like the gambling metaphor employed in Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove – at a moments notice, the ominous black dice may come up against our favor, and submerge the world into a nuclear holocaust.
The song is characterized by layers of twittering percussion, otherworldly synths, and heavy, throbbing bass. Ride tops the whole thing off with a self-aggrandizing narrator who is in control of the nuclear codes, and who highlighs the hazardous nature of his inflated ego, which alone could end the world.
