pulling some Beatles shit right here. Though I doubt Ben Gibbard has ever meditated in India. Or has he?...

well, if Ben and Chris liked the way it ended (due to the misfortunate accident with the tape), i think it's clever on their part. it left them with an option that they probably didn't think of (when they initially constructed the arrangement of the track).

I liked DeathCab for awhile, and this song was on CSI's episode, and i never heard this song before, and i love it. The lyrics are amazing =]

I can't say I like the ending. It doesn't sound “artistic”, it's more like someone tripped over the line in to the recording rig.

"I find it pretty funny that the ending actually shocks anyone" What the fuck are you?

i found it interesting comparing the abrupt ending of this song to the one in "Silence", the first song on Portishead's new album, "Third", which was released 2 weeks ahead of Narrow Stairs. No offence to DCFC fans (for I am one myself) but I would say that Portishead used the sudden ending with much more artistic connotation. IMHO Pity and Fear would sound better fading out.

I was wondering about that loud pop at the end. It scared the crap out of me the first time I heard this song.

Wahoo for tapes! This is why they should still manufacture them. A much more personal and characteristic way of recording. Instead of "write and delete" digital. Eurgh!

could be my favourite song on the album -- so far i don't like the abrubt ending, but it doesn't ruin the song for me.

The ending is so I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles. That's what it reminded me of! I really like that they did that. It's a ballsy step.
